Checking spreadsheets for more than 50 staff
PureCare's managers were maintaining training spreadsheets by hand for more than 50 staff. Updating them was only part of the job. They also had to check entries, verify records and spend time auditing the information.
The team had tried several other training services. Credit and token costs were difficult to manage as the organisation grew, online courses were disconnected from the training matrix, and face-to-face learning had to be matched up separately. Buying access to courses still left PureCare with the work of bringing its training records together.
What changed for PureCare
| What mattered | Before Nest Learn | With Nest Learn |
|---|---|---|
| Keeping records together | Spreadsheets and separate online and face-to-face records to match up. | Online and face-to-face training incorporated into the same Training Matrix. |
| Planning costs | Credit and token costs that were difficult to predict as the team grew. | Flat pricing that makes monthly spending easier to plan. |
| Finding relevant courses | Large catalogues covering different care settings, with too few relevant courses. | A course selection focused on children's homes. |
| Organising training | Difficulty finding an approach to Learning Paths that suited the team. | Learning Paths the HR Manager found a better fit for the team. |
One Training Matrix for online and face-to-face training
With Nest Learn, the records PureCare had struggled to match up are incorporated together. The Training Matrix brings online courses, the provider's own face-to-face sessions and recorded training completed elsewhere into one view.
Managers can see the dates behind a training status and follow links to the supporting evidence. They can also organise their own face-to-face events, book staff and record attendance in Nest Learn.
A monthly cost the team can plan around
PureCare found it difficult to know what training would cost with credit-based services. The longer-term cost became harder to manage as the organisation grew. Onboarding brought another budgeting task: working out how many credits to buy for new staff.
Nest Learn's flat pricing made it easier for PureCare to know what it was paying each month. The HR Manager no longer had to factor in buying course credits for every new starter.
“We don't have to worry about building in the price of new onboarding staff and buying credits for them.”
Nest Learn is priced per Home, with no per-learner fees or course credits for staff attached to that Home. Staff can use the online catalogue without a separate course purchase. Bank staff who work across Homes are covered through a separate flat-price Bank Pool add-on. See the plans and what is included.
Relevant courses, organised through Learning Paths
PureCare had used providers whose course lists covered many types of care, with too few courses relevant to children's homes. The HR Manager found that harder to track and valued Nest Learn's focus on children's residential care.
The HR Manager had also struggled with the idea of Learning Paths and found Nest Learn's approach particularly useful, saying they had found no other service that provided them in the same way. Managers can group courses into a Learning Path, set deadlines and assign it to the people who need it, with progress shown in the same Training Matrix.
Positive feedback during audits
Since starting with Nest Learn, PureCare's HR Manager reports positive feedback from Ofsted and local authorities during their audits.
“We've had really positive feedback from Ofsted and from local authorities when they've done their audits ever since we started using Nest Learn, and couldn't recommend it more highly.”
